MONTH OF THE WOLF: When was it exactly when you guys found the house?
A Ship In The Woods: I found this house, this compound so to speak. I thought, this is a great chance to start an artist compound so we dealt with alot of negotiation which led us to finally getting the house. It happened organically, we have a girl who lives with us who is connected to the art scene in LA. We were just talking, thinking of doing a group show at the house so we started doing group art shows in the beginning. We have bands play, comedy shows, lectures, book releases. We now have opened the store located in Flower Hill off Via de la Valle, basically trying brand new things which we've never done, how to sell art basically. Our first show outside of the house was at La Paloma Theater, that was a big deal.
MOTW: Was that a breakthrough moment you think?
ASITW: I don't know if it was a breakthrough moment, it was just a big event. Crispin Glover, he does a one man show where he reads excerpts from his books, shows one of his crazy films, and then a Q & A with the audience. That was on Match 7th, 2014. Two hundred and fifty people, two nights. That dude, Saturday or Sunday morning I went to bed around 4AM. Crispin Glover man, he stayed there and talked to every single person, signing autographs. He stayed until the very last person left, it was really cool.
MOTW: That is!
ASITW: It was a big event, and seeing how La Paloma operates was interesting. And to work with a guy who works in Hollywood work with us was great! All that was incredibly hard to make happen, so we were happy that we got to do it.
MOTW: I know exactly what you mean, losing sleep over your own creative vision.
ASITW: Exactly! You can tell with how many bands you work with, which ones have done this before and which ones haven't.
MOTW: Yup. It's a learning curve as you go along.
